+/- speaker terminals

I have an old horn midrange I want to hook up to a crossover, but am unsure about which terminal is positive and which is negative.

It is a vintage University horn driver, and the terminals are marked L1 and L2.

Does anybody know if there was any standard practice back in the day for labeling these terminals, or any other way to know which is positive?

I tried a search, but didn't have any luck

Thanks in advance for any advice.
