I need info on matching 2 16 ohm 40 watt each speaker systems to a amp rated at 100 watts...50 watts per channel. will that work ?? I had a heathkit amp that failed. had 35 watts per channel. and replaced the amp at 100 watts...50 watts per channel but I would like to keep the heathkit as-10 speakers. Are there 35 watt tuners available today ? thanks.

Very little bad can come from using an amp with more watts available. Usually your ears will tell you you've reached an uncomfortable level before the speakers will feel any pain. In fact, it's more likely to damage HF drivers by operating with not enough power than too much. I honestly don't think there can be such a thing as "too much" power. :dunno:

Turns out your 100 watt amp with 16 Ohm speakers only puts out 25 watts per channel. Not to worry. This is normal. The amp will run cooler and the speakers will not be worked as hard.
