Speaker trouble

Hi gang,

I have a pair of M-Audio Studiopro 3 speakers for my PC workstation. Suddenly, they don't work. My knowledge of audio/video is non-existant, but I feel like it may be something simle like an internal blown fuse or something. I do know that speaker structures are pretty basic and was just wondering if anyone would have any advice on taking them apart and easily deducing the problem?

Normal speakers are simple in principle but I am making the assumption that your speakers are powered and have their own amp inside of the woofer or one of the satellites and something is much more likely wrong with that if it just suddenly stopped working.

Here is what I would do:
Check all of the connections make sure everything is hooked up right.
Play something to check to see if they are still broken.
and then what I would do is open it up and see if anything is visually wrong with the amp.
If nothing is visually wrong but you aren't so handy with the soldering iron then I would consider replacement (depending on how they sound, how much you can spend, if you can even afford to spend money on such things.)

You may also want to make a vintage minisystem for your computer that will sound a lot better, but you don't have to if you don't want to get hooked like me (DON'T GET ADDICTED!)

Very nice speakers! Definitely get them professionally serviced, you might be looking at an amp problem, not nearly so simple as a "speaker" problem most of the time. :no:

One thing I would do first is try the AUX input with a different source. Might be some issue with the computer sound card, too.

Thanks everyone for the quick respose. The problem is that there is a light around the on/off button that does not light up anymore, that is how I know it is not turning on. I tried a different unit in its outlet and it worked just fine. Connections seem to be fine. It's like I have no power going to it. I have not tried M-Audio yet, I know my warranty is expired.
 
Hi King,

I'm not sure what a "wall wart" type is, but I'm guessing it's maybe the opposite of something that would have an internal power supply? There is a power cord that plugs into a wall outlet.
