Speaker wire

I was wanting to know what gauge wire most on this site use for connecting floor standing speakers to their receiver. Does heavier speaker wire make a sound difference only on small satellite speaker sytems or will it only improve how hard the amp works on larger speakers. I tried some heavier gauge wire on my Marantz receiver and Cerwin Vega speakers and couldn't hear a difference in sound quallity.
Also hiding the speaker wire is not an option where my system is. I don't like how the heavier wire keeps it's coiled off the spool look against the baseboard. Is there a way to get the heavier wire to lay flat? Thanks.

You've got it backwards. Satellite speakers draw less current than big woofers, so smaller wire is more appropriate for them.

Generally speaking, it doesn't matter one whit.

[O.K., half a whit, then, maybe.... :p: ]

Poke around in this forum and in Thinking Out Loud - you'll find dozens and dozens of threads discussing this, and many many recommendations.

Instead of heavier wire, my preference is for Cat5 ethernet. You can use the single twisted pairs or braid them into larger bundles, or just leave the wire in its stock sheath. Lots and lots of options.

Agree with Todd on this one.....make your inquiry regarding wire and/or cabling in the "Thinking Out Loud" forum. Lots of info and no flaming or BS replies....:smoke:
