Vintage is his gig so I'll let him have a go with mine and get the signal to noise ratio as good as possible. I paid under $600 for mine and another $170 shipping on eBay. There is a guy on eBay parting one out but is charging $25 each for some knobs and such. Glad mine are all there!

Jim, I finished the refurb on my 1000A and I am simply amazed at how good it sounds. And I didn't do anything to the power supply... just a full recap with similar-to-stock values. I did notice, however, that the transformers get really hot after a couple hours. To remedy this, I purchased a variable speed 120v fan from Amazon that I plug into the switched outlet of my 1000A. It has completely solved the issue. With the addition of the fan, the transformers get warm, but not hot.

I didn't watch the video you mention in your post about the power supply design, but I'm of the opinion that Sansui knew what they were doing with the 1000A. Every time I turn mine on, I'm simply amazed at how good it sounds.

Thanks for the update. I had a 1000A when I was 18 (1972) and as soon as I could afford to I bought some L100 JBL's. It was a good match for the amps power output. I just bought the 1000A I have now because I couldn't stop thinking about how good it sounded back then. I have accumulated many systems to mix and match and entertain myself with and I still have the L100's but they don't compare to my Speakerlab Super K's or even my Speakerlab 7's for that matter. I also have several Tube amps besides the 1000A and maybe 10+ solid state amps of great power that all sound great as well. I just hooked them each up to my main system one at a time for several weeks each just to see if I can tell the difference between my Carver TFM-55X (2x500w) and other than the ones that are under 170 wpc didn't have the head room, I couldn't hear much difference. I didn't need to do anything to my 1000A after buying it. Everything is working as it should. 7591 output tubes working strong. The one I had in 1972 had 5881 or 6L6 and 12AX7's. Enjoy. Jim
