Speakerlab Seven restoration

Okay, so due to weight and cost, we will likely be using about 10-15 pounds of lead per speaker, but with a sort of egg-crate pattern. This will also be in conjunction with some fiber-fill.
 
Nice work, more great pictures. Those EV tweeters look great, and the Blue grille cloth looks just like the original cloth used by SL.

When purchasing/ordering a speaker kit, I remember that you'd have a choice of color for the grille cloth which they would cut for you from big rolls right in the store if you purchased in person, and I think blue was probably the most popular. I remember buiilding kits with the Blue grille cloth, and also the Red and a light Brown cloth for different speakers.
 
This is bringing back memories. I had the same bright blue fabric on my first pair of SL .1 satellites (1978). It matched a pair of shorts I had at the time. The same fabric was available in about 1980 when I built my passive subwoofer.

I was not married at the time and WAF was not a factor in my audio life. Given that I had some shorts of the same color I guess it was not a factor in my social life, either.

Whoop whoop!
The original fabric was GREEN. The replacement was very poor white fabric, so I'm glad that has left.

When I saw the how the white grill cloth looked on the grills it was just bad, and I surely didn't want green as the color so I chose the blue.

I have to say again, Will's mom did such a great job on the grill cloth.

Yer just a low down, good for nuthin', dirty tweeter catcher - and a good on at that! Both of you young men are doing fine work - very impressive. All those hours other kids are losing on the Xbox is wasted, compared to what you are doing. It is not that I mind a round of gaming every now and then, but a project like yours is so much more rewarding on so many levels.

Have you decided how you intend to power the speakers?

Not really, I was very keen on using my Hafler DH-220 with all of the Musical Concepts mods, but it seems that Laith would rather use some of his stuff that needs repair...

The painstaking ordeal will certainly reward each of you with an outcome that no amount of monetary denomination will satisfy.

I really like the workspace & view. Also, your dad is a special person to step in with that tweeter puller. Ingenious!

So I found some acoustic foam laying around in my room (its bad when you find stuff hidden in your room!) so it will be in this order going in, cabinet/lead/foam and then I am going to try running them with no batting/stuffing because that is how Speakerlab did it originally.
 
You know what you could do that might be kinda cool - pack a time capsule inside the speakers once they are ready for final assembly. With the work you are doing, they will be around for a long time. Whoever goes in there next will get a big kick out of looking at what was going on in your lives while rebuilding these babies.

Perhaps, but I am thinking Laith will not sell these for a long will if ever, and if he does it would likely be to me.
