Speakers and tile floors

I've read as long as you can have a comfortable conversation in any type room without any disturbing echo the room should be fine, give or take a rug, sofa, curtains etc.
If there's noticeable problem it's probably something to do with the speaker design.
If I can just remember the link.
 
Tin Bird- let's set the acoustic concerns aside for a moment. Virginia Beach from a temp standpoint is a heck of a lot nicer than here in Minnesota but you still have about 6-7 months where the temps are coolish. If your home is on a slab and doesn't have a basement, my concern is that the tile floor is going to be rather cool during those winter months. For that reason alone and for peace at home I'd consider staying with carpet, however one other option to think about would be a wood floor. Have you talked about wood? Acoustically it may not be much different than wood but they are beautiful and a heck of a lot warmer than tile. There's my 2 cents and I'm sticking to it.
 
I use Mrs. PG's sunroom for pictures but not for listening. I have discovered that OB speakers work better in this room than box speakers.

Ha! It is my den and I have four cats and two sons...no doubt it will be a nasty situation under there! :-)

Thanks so much for your thoughts...we are actually on a crawl space. My system is in my den. The room is about 15 x 25...give or take...so pretty small.
 
Bumping this thread, I am looking at fitting out the end of a shed as a music room living space. Its about 5 meters by 3 meters not ideal but what I've got to play with. Its a tin shed so all sorts of acoustic issues and I am thinking I am going to line it with pine lining for the celling over a combination of polystyrene and foil bubble wrap insulation that I have salvaged and maybe a mix of gyprock and ply for walls.. The floor is a dusty uneven concrete slab. As it gets colder here now I've been thinking a chip board sub floor will sort my un level floor problems and also be warmer, but I am also thinking about a wood heater oven. I like to re use materials and flooring is an endless landfill problem I think. I mean it doesn't last and I am going to stick a barn door and may even park the bike inside if there is room.. still trying to work it all out in my mind. A concrete tiled floor seems logically a better foundation for speakers for me.. I might even do a mosaic out of what ever I can find. This is a how long is the piece of string question, but yes if we could all have the perfect music room.. I am thinking it would be large with 2 inch plush pile carpet...
