Now, fact of the matter is there is a vertical strip of MDF in the grill frame that runs between the EMITs and the mids that Infinity calls a "quarter wave plate". From the QSL-1 owner's manual....
"Without this plate, due to the way high frequencies emanate from the slot in the tweeter, there tends to be a slight dip in frequency response around 110kHz. If you desire to listen to your system without the grills, we recommend that this "plate" be provided. A piece of masonite 1.5"x42"x.25" thick attached so that it runs flush and parallel to the tweeters will provide a substitute."
