Hi all,
New to the forums and looking for advice. I just inherited my uncles Pioneer SX 737 and would like advice on what speakers I should look into, new or old. I have done some research but haven't found what speakers people have with their sx-737's or what they recommend. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Its all a matter of finding what works best with the pioneer for your ears. I don't happen to have a sx 737 though I can recommend some speakers I enjoy. I have a pair of Realistic Optimus 1B's that are extremely pleasing to me. I picked my set up for $25 and change and I'd have to say its been one of my best pick ups. Not too many people on this board enjoy Sansui speakers though I like my S-820U's. No kabuki in site. My pioneer cs-77s are pretty nice as well, then you'd have pio speakers to go with the amp. There's a hundred and ten ways to go, but just find the one that you enjoy best.

this is where the fun of the hobby begins!
look around your area, thrift shops, SA, GW and CL, watch for brands/models well regarded by the group here or other web resources. hunt for that score, bring them home and try them out. only your ears are what matters.
good luck and happy hunting!

I would look for old :)

If you find a vintage Infinity with an EMIT tweeter go for it :)

If you want, ask again when you see something interesting, before to buy. Read the forum to familiarize with regarded brands and models. Look at the linked pictures to see what to look for....

Welcome to Ak !!!!!!!

if you find killer deals on anything klipsch, jbl, advent, infinity, yamaha.. send them my way :D :D
you keep the bose stuff haha

the pioneer HPM series were made at this time and they are very well respected (certainly the HPM 100/150/200/1500), i think they would make a nice match

I have a SX-737. I first put it in a computer setup with Baby Advent II's. Not a bad match. The Advents a little strong on bass. Kept that setup for awhile. Along came a pair of ADS L-400's. The ones with the metal grill. Much better I put SX-737 in TV/ Video setup. Kept that setup for a couple years then I moved recently to where I am now. The L-400's and SX-737 a really nice match. Now I have the SX-737 matched up with Minimus 7w's back in computer setup. That is a nice match also. You now have three more speakers you can keep an eye out for. Other members I'm sure will post what they use or recomend but it's up to you and your ears to find the speakers you like. Hope this helps and welcome to AK. :D :thmbsp:

My SX-750 is currently hooked up to some restored KLH 32's and sounds great.

The Pioneers of that era are great receivers and I think you'll find lots of speakers that will go well with them. If you're not in a hurry I think you'll find that you run across lots of opportunities to pick up vintage speakers at a pretty attractive price.

Then if you can read posts here that explain how to restore speakers by replacing the capacitors in the crossovers (easy) and to refoam speakers (a little bit more of a learning curve but not as hard as it looks initially) you'll really be surprised at the results.

You've just started in with the fun, but be careful, it's addictive.
