My wife has agreed to let me put a system in our great room (not my main listing room) but the only catch is they will have to go in a cabinets about six feet high and 10 feet apart. These are large cabinets that once housed my Heresey II speakers with a little room to spare. They have a hinged cabinet door covered with speaker cloth and designed for speakers when built. There should be enough room to tilt them down a little bit. They will be running off a sansui 5000x. We listen to mainly classic rock and easy jazz. The room is 17x25 with the cabinets on the long wall. Budget is less than a $1000. My concerns are 1st being enclosed on 3 sides and also being so high for sound disbursement. Would prefer vintage but would not rule out new. A couple I am looking at: JBL 4312 control monitor, JBL l 77 and 99 Lanver advent large or but my heresey's back up there and get some more speakers for my listing room Marantz 2275.

I'd probably go with speaker that doesn't depend on a wall for bass reinforcement. Then I'd use some anechoic material on the insides of the cabinets to reduce or eliminate boom from reflected waves.

can you give me an example of a acoustic suspension speaker.
 
I actually modified my response after you started writing your response. Acoustic suspension may not be necessary as much as a speaker whose manufacturer advises placing it away from the wall. This is more common with dipoles but there are probably monopoles as well.

I'm assuming you're not planning on using a subwoofer, otherwise pretty much any speaker that would fit in there would be OK. With a sub, assuming you damped the cabinet walls as I recommended above, and if you crossed over to the subwoofer at 100hz you would probably be fine, even without wall reinforcement.

Note that I'm not an acoustics expert by any means but I do have some familiarity with the subject.
 
Well I ended up Getting a pair of AR 3a's for the cabinets but after hooking them up on my main system and comparing them to the heresy's (I know don't play them together)I think the klipsch will go in the cabinet and the ar 3a's will stay with my marantz 2275. I will probably add a sub to the klipsch if the wife but it want be in ideal spot, have to please the wife.
