I think i seen a thread with same question but is old and my question is different. I have a studio aparment large! I am looking for vintage speaker that would match this marantz 2270. I like to feel bass but want imaging as well without boom muddy sound. I have been using polk 10 a and the bass just doesnt reach the middle of the apartment. I dont like subwoofers so that is out and i only want to run two speakers. Budget for vintage speakers would be up to $300. Again polk 10a bass not doing it for me

KLH 6's. I just recapped mine but the tweeter's don't work and are being replaced. The woofers however work and have a lot of punch!

I'm sure there's plenty of choices with your budget.

Have fun and good luck.

Acoustic research AR11's, 91's or 58S, 58B if you can find them

the TSW series is pretty good, too, and less expensive usually than the older models.

I'd steer clear of 4 ohm offerings from AR with the 2270. I tried driving my AR3a's with two different examples of healthy 2270 receivers and they didn't get along very well at all. 8 ohm speakers like the 2ax worked out very well, just not the power hungry 4 ohm variety like the 3a.

If you become an AK subscriber (with the little red banner under your name) it allows you to open the "Barter Town" page here which is like the audio classified section of your dreams. you would be surprised how many AK'ers have really decent speakers for sale and probably live close enough to you for a local sale. It's only 25 bucks for the year and it opens up all kinds of other options on this site (plus it helps keep the site going). Place an ad that says "looking for vintage speakers" and wait for the avalanche of responses.

Check my avatar. Dynaco A-25's. Easily had for $100 to $200.

While I absolutely love my Dynaco A-25's, and think they are wonderful speakers, I will have to admit that they don't have a lot in the deep bass department. If the OP thought that a pair of Polk 10A's were lacking deep bass, then I don't think a pair of Dynaco A25's are going to help him out much in that area. I have a pair of Polk 10A's as well, and they reach much deeper into the bass than my Dynaco A25's do.

you could do well with some Original Large Advents. They have some decent bass and would be well within your budget. I usually drive mine with a Sansui AU 9500 think the Marantz you have is around the same wattage.

Based on personal experience, an excellent speaker for that application would be the JBL 630T. I ran a pair for 24 years and used them in large living rooms and a couple of church auditoriums. They can cover a large area as they are very efficient, and they have punchy but well defined bass. The mids are to die for, IMHO. PM me and I can give you some more info.

In my shop system I have a 2275 powering ADS 810. Some say they a bit bass boomy and I would agree but it does get down there nice and the mid and highs are typical ADS clear. I tried the ADS 710, 780 and 810's with the 2275. All of them were nice but the 810's were still my favorites with the Marantz.

I've never heard these, but have read a lot and it seems those who have them love them.
JBL L-26's or L-36's may fit the bill both sound wise and budget wise.

I have Dynaco A25's matched to a Marantz 2270 and a Dual 1019 turntable....makes for a nce "vintage" system with excellent sound....

Thank you all. Going to listen to a pair of Dynaco A35 today. I liked the A25 but the polks 10a have better bass in the lower end.
