I just finished the slow process of completely recapping my Marantz 2285 (non B). I'm wanting to use it with a pair of smaller speakers in my bedroom. I was planning on using the 2285 with a pair of B&W 805's but after a long audition I'm not happy with the sound. OK at lower volumes but slightly muddy and feel fatigued after a while at normal listening levels. I read where the B&W's need a lot of power to wake up. They sounded great with a high powered solid state McIntosh amplifier I used to own.
The 2285 sounds very nice with my large altecs which convinced me its not the receiver. I need something smaller than the Altecs for the bedroom. Any ideas? I remember that I liked some of the Snell speakers from the past but don't know what models would mate with the Marantz. Any help would be appreciated.
