Speakers for the Marantz 2226B.

Being an aspiring Marantz Model 2226B owner, I figured I would need some fitting speakers for this wonderful receiver.
I need a pair bookshelf speakers with a nice amount of bass.
I looked around a bit across several fora, and noted the following list:

  • Dynaco A25
  • B&W DM302
  • Acoustic Research 4XA
  • Acoustic Research 25
  • Acoustic Research 7

Can you please recommend some good bookshelf speakers for me to go with this receiver?

Does anyone know how the Dynaco A25 sounds with the 2226B? I saw an advertisement for it on a website and wondered if it's worth buying.

I have AR 18's on my 2265 (they're the successors to the AR7's...love them. pint size, but tons of bass

Smaller Advents worked great on my 2230....lots of bass, dig about 20hz deeper than the 18's...

I enjoy my 2226B with some A/D/S L420 bookshelfs. Smooth with plenty of bass, I personally didn't care when I paired them with some AR4X's or Dynaco A-25's. But I do recall a very good match with some KLH 17's. FWIW

Saw an advertisement for the AR 4XA, should I buy the pair for €100?

Where did you manage to buy those L420s? Or did you get lucky at a thrift store?

Hey guys. resurrecting this thread since I am asking essentiality the same question...with a bit of a twist. A friend of mine is getting into vintage audio and recently scored a 2226b. He needs bookshelf speakers to pair with it...but they can only be 12" tall. I've done some research for him and found a pair of Dayton Audio's on Amazon that seem to be highly rated as well as a pair of Sony SS-B1000's that fit the size requirement. (I shouldn't mention that I found a pair of KG 2.5's in his area for good price!)

Anyone have any recommendations?

how wide? AR18's are 16.5" tall, 9.6" wide and 6.25" deep. they can be laid on their side....smaller advents are less than 12" wide and about 20" tall, so if they could be laid on their side....

Yes, get out and listen to some speakers. Nobody can tell what someone else will like. Lemme tell ya, some of the stuff often recommended around here sounds like garbage. And some people think what I'd recommend, if I did (which I won't), sounds like garbage.
