Speakers need ID

Hi! I picked these up today for $20 at a garage sale because they sounded pretty nice for mystery speakers. Anyone have any idea what they might be? They're about 18.5" tall and have no real identifying marks. I think the cabinets were coated in some sort of lacquer or something, but the drivers are unharmed.

Yea it could be the A40, it does look similar. The woofers are very close, but the tweeters are slightly different. And yea the terminal cups are also different. Maybe I should open them up and take a look inside?
 
Here are some pics of the inside as well as a serial number on the woofer. I'm not sure what the strange spool-looking thing is (maybe a crossover?)

Inductor coil for the woofer and one electrolytic capacitor for the tweeter. Is the inductor wire attached directly to the woofer?
 
The cones seem to be some sort of textured plastic, and the surrounds are foam. I've attached a closer picture of the woofer.

I think they are either some sort of bic venturi or pinnacle with possible replacement woofers. I am getting a radioshack vibe from the woofers.
 
Wow

So I finally got around to hooking these up and testing them, and wow! They sound great compared to my KLH Model 17's which were recapped a few weeks ago. Even against a pair dynaco a25's they sounded very nice.

The mids aren't as strong compared to either, but the tweeters open up the sound a lot. My only complaint might be that the tweeters are too sharp, making them sound less warm.

Is there something I could do to the crossover to possibly make the sound less sharp?

Call me crazy but I have a pair of SONY speakers (Stating "Made in the USA" on them) that have the same cabinet "look" including the standoff "Floating-Look" grilles these appear to have had plus the rounded off edges. The drivers I pulled from them look the same as well but the tweeters in what I have weren't square - the three-spoke look is the same, though.

I'm not near them right now, can't recall the model.

Rather solidly built. Minimal X-over components.

Wouldn't be surprised if what you found were a slightly different iteration of what I have.
