Speakers that are imperfect, but you love them anyway...

We need a list of "perfect" speakers to compare against.
I have a pair of Polk Monitor 7's with the peerless tweeters I really like.
The little 5jr's sound pretty darn good too. I have a pair of Monitor 10's I rebuilt the crossovers in and replaced the mylar dome tweeters with the RDO-194's. They sound pretty darn good too, although they aren't as detailed as the 7's. But man, the bass! Tight and with good impact.
The 7's with the peerless tweeters are very detailed and well balanced though. Probably the best speaker in the monitor line.

Perhaps a bit of an unusual choice, but Polk RTi-A5’s:

They’ll take everything my 8080DB can throw at them and just shrug it off with an “is that all ya got” look. They will knock pictures off walls in other rooms of the house of I’m not careful. Top end has surprisingly good detail and accuracy.

Perhaps a little too “bright” or “forward” for some people, but where they might be considered that is right about where my hearing has some damage from working a foot or two away from screaming jet engines and whining straight cut gear helo transmissions for 30 years. So I guess “Bright” seems to come out just about right for me. They have wonderful detail for Geddy Lee’s vocals, Lifeson’s guitar shredding and Peart’s snares and cymbals.

I did have to add a small 10” powered aub to them though as they only reach down to about 30hz. The sub just fills in the bottom nicely for a nice complete listening package.

The other two sets I would say ar my AR4x’s and a pair of Energy ESM3’s. Those are both bookshelf speakers, but both sound wonderful with a couple of my lower powered receivers. An SX680 and a Sansui 350.

None of them are what some would consider perfect, but they all are for me.

:)

I have been a JBL fan for many years but my Klipsch KG-4 (walnut I might add) are the ones I’d never part with.

I guess that would be my Yamaha ns-1000m and ESS AMT 1a speakers. Not perfect speakers, but does such a thing even exist?
Sounds good enough for vintage speakers that I would never sell them. For what I paid for them, nothing new today comes even close.
