Hi,
I own an ST-120 VTA amp I built 2 months ago. It is about 65Watt per Channel. The VTA ST-120 is a 60 WATT PER CHANNEL amplifier built on the same ST-70 chasis and not the solid state Dyanco ST120.
I am running the amp on some Infinity 2 way book shelf speakers and I'd like to build a set of speakers that would be better suited... The book shelf speakers are not cutting it. I have a pretty big listening room. 20' X 26'
If I were to buy new I think I'd get a pair of Klipsch Classic RF5. These are horn tweeter and 2 8" woofers.. 99dB (I don't think I need to go that high in dB)
I'd like to build from a project... I don't want to do a design. I'd like to see some designs that are built and have some track record... Not learn that my design was off.
I was looking at Parts Express and looking at the "Wayne J's "Veritas" Three way TMWW Towers"
http://www.parts-express.com/projectshowcase/indexn.cfm?project=Veritas
I think these are 90dB or so. I would not mind a couple more dBs but these would work well I'm sure.
I'm looking at these sites for other designs -
Lou C http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/
Dennis Murphy http://murphyblaster.com/content.php?f=main.html
Roman Bednareck http://www.rjbaudio.com/
Wayne J http://www.speakerbuilder.net/web_files/default.htm
Curts Speaker Design Works - http://speakerdesignworks.com/index.html
From Curt I like the Mini Statements (http://speakerdesignworks.com/MiniStatements.html) but would like to run these with 8"woofers instead of the 7" that he has
PS - I built a set of book shelf speakers.. Built the crossovers from parts and built the cabinets.. I have the router and circle cutter tools.. So I'd like to build and same some $$.. I don't mind spending 500 - 800 for the parts. I'd like to just build a nice solid set of speakers that would do all around well as a stand alone pair.
I'd welcome any opinions on what a good design would be for speakers for this AMP.
Thanks all!
