Speakers with ST-70, Pat-5

I am wondering which of the two sets of speakers that I currently own would sound best with an original, unmodified Dynakit ST-70 amp and a Pat-5 preamp - EPI 100's or Jensen Model 4's? I know that my ears will be the final judge but I would like to find out what others have found in their experience. Thanks!

This is an odd pairing. The ST-70 is almost a universally beloved amp, but it is aged and benefits greatly from updating key components. Many suggestions on this site. OTOH, the Pat-5 is an almost universally despised screechy preamp. They do not necessarily bring out the best in each other. I suggest you try the ST70 with a refurbed Dynaco PAS pre and go from there....

Both amps are gems in their own style. PAT4 could exchange the final transistor to reduce dist but is an undervalued
device. ST-70 likes new matched EL34, apart from that it needs no "improvements" .

As for speakers; trust your ears, try to borrow them home and listen for several days before deciding.

I'll be interested to know how many folks here have had the exact same equipment and at the some point did an A/B comparison

Interesting, I have two PAT5’s, one completely updated and one completely not. Neither sound screechy. I have paired them with my ST70 clone and the updated version sounds very clear and precise. The stock version sounds a bit muddy as you may expect. I do not have the speakers you mention.
Everyone’s ears are different. Have fun with the journey.

I can tell you from experience that the EPI 100's are excellent sounding speakers in a small room run by a ST70 with a solid state preamplifier. I have not tried my PAT 5 yet.
