SPEC 1 on RT 707, or Vice Versa?

Well, with my current setup, I have my SPEC 1 on top of my RT 707. I know that the RT 707 is heavier, so logic told me to put the SPEC 1 on top in order to avoid any of those nasty dents on the top from some heavier component. The thing is, I was giving my 707 a good workout today, and couldn't help but notice the amount of heat that was coming from between the 707 and SPEC 1.. should the 707 be on top for ventilation purposes? It seems like every set up I see, the RT 707 is on top, and I was curious as to if this was the reason why.

What you are probably seeing are those components in a rack. No weight concerns and less heat due to direct contact.
