Spec 1 with Broken Volume Pot Advice

I have a Spec 1 Preamp that I had a tech look at and he said the volume pot is shot. There could be more wrong with it as well but that remains to be seen. So I'm looking for advice on what to do with this thing, any ideas? Thanks Bob

There was an AK'er who sourced a replacement Quad pot for the Spec 1 after trying to fix the ceramic discs in the original. Give me a few minutes to dig the thread up.

SPEC-1 Volume pot problems

AK members, I've been having alot of problems with the volume control pot on my SPEC-1 amp for over a year. I got some spare parts from an AK member (thanks again) and it solved my problem for a few months. However, my problem returned. Well, I have found a solution to the problem of not being able to purchase a new pot for replacement. State Electronics has a line that they can use to custom build any pot needed for the SPEC amps (I know because I've replaced my volume pot as well as the power pots on my SPEC-4) Use the link below and check out the Series 70. It fit like a glove and works GREAT!! It costs $50 for a one piece charge and $75 for the pot (Well worth it to me) and takes around a week depending on production at the time of order.

That's a shame, the SPEC 1 is a fantastic preamp and also a beautiful piece of industrial design. Are you at least able to use it?

No she's inoperable. A lot of nice features on these. This one has some scratches on it's face but not to bad looking. But if you replace the volume are there any other problems with it? Probably not but you never know, Thanks Bob
 
Well, if you're going to sell her, you just need to find a buyer that has the knowledge and time to fix her up. I'll bet there are a number of AK members who would be willing to take up the challenge. Good luck.
