Spendor A9 review

mtaudio,
Once you grow comfortable, perhaps it'd be good to flip that 9 around and turn it into a 6 in another thread. I wouldn't want it to get buried and lost for potential buyers later.

Good idea, I tried to start a new thread yesterday, but had computer a computer freeze.

In my search for the most transparent and lifelike speaker recently the Spendor A6's made my short list, I'm guessing the A9's are better still, but more $ than I want to spend. There many fine speakers of this Type avaliable. I looked at several different brands and narrowed it down to the aforementioned Spendor A6's, the Reference 3A Veena II or their Episode Towers, or the PMC FB1i. It looks to me like you made a fine choice with the Spendor's.

If I hadn't been in the right place at the right time financially and in my search, I would have targeted either the Spendor S5e or S8e. They're a generation older than the A9 or A6s mentioned here and can often be had for an absolute bargain price.

I did convince a close friend to buy a pair of S8es that were for sale in his area at the right price. Great speakers. They were what I was looking for.

While you can't go wrong with any Spendors, you can certainly do right with used gear. The factory backs them up very well and they come up from time to time.

S5es are excellent and portraying that Spendor sound while having that tower form factor. They're relatively small and can be considered minimonitors with built-in stands. Supplementing with a subwoofer will bring them to another level. Very cohesive speakers with scary clarity and a non-fatiguing presentation. They come in used at $1k or under, shipping being another matter.

S8es
