Spendor BC1 - woofer

Hello everyone, I haven't posted here in a long time. I have decided to today because of a speaker problem...

I woke up this morning and found one of the woofers of my Spendor BC1's not working. It rubs when I push it in or out. The working one doesn't, it bounces in and out with smooth suspension. Really weird, as it was working fine last night (as far as I know) and nothing happened to it since.

Does anyone know what could be the problem and what can be done about it? Can it be repaired? If not, can it be replaced?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I love those speakers and am really bummed out about it.

That would be disappointing.

I think you need to do some more investigation into what the issue could be. Can you take the woofer out and check it for continuity between the terminals? Also give it a good inspection for likely issues like loose or misaligned suspension or magnet and damaged tinsel leads.

If it’s not the woofer that might be good news as I suspect it’s hard to find a good replacement.

Thank you for your suggestions. I took the woofer out and looked it over the best I could without detaching the cone from its surrounds. It looked perfect but continued to grind regardless of how I rotated it. Spoke to two people over the phone who suspected that there was a problem with the voice coil. I brought it in to a tech today who will look it over. I'll get back when I receive some news.
