I have a pair of Spendor SP 1/2Es that I've never been happy with and am going to try to trade for something better. I have found that multiple components seem to have failed or are failing. I am far from a speaker expert but I can work a multimeter and have found that one of the Scanspeak midranges appears to be be toast-- it's giving a reading of exactly nil on the multimeter. The other one is giving a reading of around 5 ohms, which says to me it's basically working but may be on the way out too-- as far as I know, it should be showing something between 6 and 7 ohms. Additionally, using a process of elimination the crossovers seem to be at fault too, I imagine because one or more of the caps has failed. But I don't see an easy way to test the caps with the multimeter because the caps seem to be glued/epoxied/soldered directly to the board so there's no bare metal to touch with the probes and I don't want to pry the damn things off without knowing what I'm doing. Anyone with experience with these things have a suggestion?
