Spring Mid-Atlantic AK Gathering

I really enjoyed the last one... So I'll plan to be there. Jay, I can give you a ride.. and if anybody else in the area needs a lift, my car seats five and has a decent sized cargo area!

Carl, I figured if you were going I'd bum a ride off you.

jim,

any chance you could do a turntable setup tutorial for a TT challenged guy like me?

i have a shure VTF gauge and can use it. i also have a 1 size fits all mirrored protractor.

but so many things elude me. all those different protractors on VE, how to set the VTA, finer points of setting anti-skating, and probably a bunch of unknown unknowns...

best,

doug

That is certainly doable! I'll add it to the list.

Sunday May 18th - Anna and I would love to attend! Last fall left my favorite lawn chairs at the other gathering... :tears:

We will bring some goodies, both audio and munchable types. I just built a new SET amp KT150 style probably will have another 1 or possibly 2 for sale at the time of this event if there's any interest. Custom American Cherry chassis are being built right now!

Edit: pics here - This is one mighty fine sounding SET amp complete with Ultra-linear and a smidgeon of cathode feedback. All the audio purists will gently be knocked back in the listening chair.... I'm sorry. One will be set up for probably 20-30w/ch single ended goodness. The one in the pic is probably 10-15 w/ch and 10 o'clock on the volume knob is get me out of the room loud. Yeah KT-150s sound mighty fine (knocked my GL KT88 to the shelf), I'll be glad to audition, bring your favorite music.

Cheers,
Bob Brown

If you left your best lawn chairs at Rick's last fall, you should be able to reclaim them and thank Rick for storing them over the winter. If these are truly lawn chairs, used outside, I doubt seriously you missed em much in the last 4 months.

Hope you can pick em up.

Is rick coming to this event???

Turntable demo and the list

I would very much like to get in on this

RE: Turntable setup demo: +1!.
RE: "the list", as in "I'll add that to the list": what else might be on the list and (not to put too fine a point on it), would there be any kind of a rough schedule?

I'll be coming, hopefully, from Cumberland Almost Maryland. Last year I got as far as Hancock and was turned away by an accident on I-70, the silver lining to that being a lunch at the Log Cabin Inn, including an excellent dish involving fresh morels and several Yuenglings.
Didn't get to Rick's in the fall.

Really look forward to this!:tresbon:

Jim's event adheres to a very strict schedule.

Arrive...

Better look at the gear on offer as this is first come-first served and you wouldn't want to miss anything.

Say hi to friends from previous meetings, grab something to drink, drop off what you brought for noshing, drinking, say hi to Jim and wander around until you find a spot to enjoy part of the day.

Never been any scheduled events but there have been some comparisons of phono preamps one year.

I'm sure the TT how to will be a well-announced event to those in attendance and you'll be able to get in on that if you hear it is happening. Not too early, need to wait for folks to show up and not too late because some might need to leave early.

Overall, a well-structured event.

You left one item off the usual agenda;

Merrylander arrives with 9-layer Choclate cake. All AK'ers currently on diets break diets and devour choclate cake......... :D

See you all on the 18th!

Planning on it and I'll bring your chairs (just give me a reminder a few days ahead of time)

If for some reason I can't attend, maybe Ghazzer could haul the chairs to Jim's.

That is SOOOO friggin awesome.. my wife will crap when she sees them.. I wont tell her so it will be a pleasant surprise to keep her coming to future events.

Cheers,
Bob

Here is the tentative schedule of events planed:

Morning set up - 11AM
Members arrive around Noon
First food service - 1 PM
Turntable setup demo and discussion - 2 PM
Second food offering - 3 pm (for the late arriving members!)
Active Electronic Crossover demo and listening session - 4 PM
(I will have several Slope/Crossover points saved on the Behringer DCX2496 that we can compare and visualize etc. on the main rig.)
Good Food, and great audio fun noon till 6PM....:banana:

Steve plans on bringing his Phono Speed Controller so if I can figure a place to set it up it may be a third learning experience!!!

We are now less than 2 months away with a solid date in place, so let us know if you are coming and if a significant other will accompany you.

If you bring a friend who is not an AK member please let us know in advance, as this is a AK gathering at a private residence.

See you in May,
Jim

Geez Jim, Don't you think you could hold off until next month to pop that question again?

We're trying to find some folks to fill up Mark's van.

I won't ask again until May, I'll just bump the thread. :^(
