Mark I understand what you are saying. It does need to be opened up, checked and cleaned. I've got a bunch of projects half done and I need to get them done before starting a new and unfamiliar one like a scope. I appreciate the suggestions and support. I’m sure I’ll be tapping you on the shoulder when I do get into it.markthefixer said:Ok but the secret is that old scopes are somewhat similar to old stereos, they need cleaning (IPA, deoxit and progold) and sometimes power supply caps.
EW, don’t sweat it. The whole exercise has been a learning experience for me. I have a pair of cheesy speakers that I use for testing unknown equipment. It takes a lot of tone tweaking to get them to sound halfway decent. At the time it didn’t occur to me that it would have a direct affect on the pattern. Duh. In hindsight, what else would happen if you emphasize or de-emphasize certain frequencies?
I can’t wait until tomorrow … I get smarter every day!
