Squeezebox Touch Volume Setting

Just curious as to what volume others have their output set at? Do you think it matters? Do you use the volume control on the SB or do you use your pre amps volume?

It seems to me it sounds best at around 85 but maybe I'm imagining things...:dunno:

I use the SB volume control. That way I only have to deal with one remote. I have my amp up to the MAX volume I would normally use and then use the SB to set a comfortable listening level.

100% or in the alternative I am using the TT 3.0 app and use his method of volume maxing. My integrated also does have a remote so this works for me.

100% so that the digital output is bit-for-bit. That way the HDCD recordings get decoded properly and my DAC gets the correct data. I use the remote on my receiver for volume. Anything less than 100% means the digital data is not accurate. Not that it sounds "horrible" if the volume is used a little, but I have an alternative for volume.

Anything less than 100% or "fixed" volume, will not output a stream that is bit accurate. Any changes in the digital domain mean the output codes aren't the same as what is on the media, even if there is plenty of digital headroom (might still sound fine, but the data is modified). Hence the HDCD light goes out. We have a Panasonic Blu-Ray that doesn't output accurate bits no matter what I do (haven't given it a lot of attention though). I put in a HDCD and the DAC does not acknowledge the decoding although it plays fine, but I use an old DVD player and all is good, decoding and all. Both are in PCM mode, go figure?!

ah, i see what you mean now that i think about it -- the volume is encoded in the bits themselves, and even if the result sounds the same, the bits have been somewhat manipulated. however, i think i still saw the HDCD light when i was using the SBT's volume control with a Denon DVD-9000 as the DAC...:scratch2:
