SR 840 clicking only when speakers selected

Marantz 840. Unit powers on. All displays ok. Problem is when speaker A or B is selected there is a repeated click from the unit under the speaker connections. Does not do this if no speakers selected. I assume some kind of short back there. I have cleaned and check for any visible shorts but all looks well. Any idea on something for a test or fix.
