SR44 vs 357 Batteries?

Anyone have issues switching out alkaline batteries for 357 (or 303) silver oxide cells? We're having some power issues with one Nikon and two Minolta bodies (college-class cameras) and storms seem to be the possible culprit. My colleague has been curious about any differences in power output between silver oxide and alkaline batteries, even though I've always used both terms interchangeably.

Alkaline batteries are notorious for losing voltage with high current draw. If used in an unbalanced meter circuit (most older CdS cell meters) the exposure with vary with light level, leading to severe over-exposure in bright light. I ruined a couple dozen rolls of film in my OM-1n that way. Voltage also drops off a lot as the charge is used, causing more trouble. Not as issue with balance meter circuits (Pentax K1000 for instance).

Silver oxide drops off far less than alkaline with current draw, and tends to stay pretty constant until exhausted. Far better choice UNLESS the camera was designed to use mercury cells. Will over-expose at least a full stop with a silver oxide, 1.54V vs 1.35V. Can be fixed with a diode in circuit, or in an adapter. If you use the camera a lot, a zinc-air hearing aid battery the correct size works very well, but they only last a few weeks once you peel the seal off. Cheap enough, I use them a lot.

Lithium batteries are worse for current induced voltage drop.
