Just want to hear what other people think:

I currently have a Mcintosh C28 going into a Mapletree Audio Design Line 2B SE Line Preamplifier before heading to my power amp.

Last week, I got my MAGI Phonomenal phono stage and it was just easier to run it directly into the Mapletree Audio Design Line 2B SE Line Preamplifier, bypassing the C28.

Is their any benefit in running the phono stage into the C28 first?

I wouldn't mind having the mono option on the C28 (the MAGI can provide mono put it would require me to change the inputs on the back of the MAGI.

My understanding is I would need to use the Aux input since the MAGI is a high output moving coil) phono stage, which sucks since I use the AUX input to hook up my lap top.

Just wondering what other would think?

I just want to avoid the time spent getting into the back of my system to do it just for listening purposes.

It sounds like you are running your source signal through 2 preamps and then to your power amp. Why?

I see, you are using the C28 as sort of a source switcher. If you like the additional processing the Mac adds nothing wrong with that I guess. There is no additional gain to connecting your phono preamp to the C28 unless you want to process the output using the C28 controls.

By the way, I have the Mapletree 2A SE preamp - I had the same situation of needing 4 inputs. I contacted Dr. Peppard when I ordered my unit and he put in 4 inputs. No extra charge. I love this preamp it's great!

If you use the tape out of the C28 as input to the Mapletree then you'll bypass the C28 controls and this will make it more into a straight switcher as opposed to an active preamp.
