stanton 680 series cartridge and pioneer pl-520

hey there folks i got a recently repaired pioneer pl-520 with a stanton 681. just bought an EV PM4216DE NUDE DIAMOND NEEDLE (6800EEE substitute) from stereo needles lady/caroles needles.

now im thinkin, uh-oh, what if it doesnt match--compliance, etc?

is there someone here who can tell me if if theres a mass/compliance mismatch or this is a-ok?

i wish i had thought of this before ordering, but...oh darnit.

It'll be fine. Most of those S-armed turntables work with most cartridges, unless you've got some crazy weight/mass/tracking force requirements. 1.75g and go! Finding an original stereohedron D6800EEE-S is almost worth the cost they command, and they'll track at a gram.

i tell u, im not lookin to pay THAT much, but ohhhh yeah am i curious! i def wont be getting the best out of it until i can dampen that plinth. man its VERY resonant.

I have that exact stylus. It sounds really good. Some of the brushes have bristles that are too long and cause tracking problems. You can either trim the bristles or remove the brush if you have any problems. I had the same issue with the Black Diamond version.

it was a thread from a good while ago--and you were on it--that helped me make up my mind. then i worried about compliance and tonearm mass with that stylus and my pioneer pl-520.

right now usin a sumiko oyster, but i cant wait to give the aftermarket hyperelliptical a spin.


eh...i may just remove that brush, then. vinyl david suggested 1.75g tracking mass (i know its force, but g is a unit of mass)--is that the case w/o the brush on?

does the brush just pull off? how gentle do i hafta be? whts the best way to remove it?

Just turn the brush 90 degrees and it will come out easily. The stylus is rated for 1.25 - 1.75 grams VTF. 1.50 should do it. It varies with how difficult your most difficult to track records happen to be. Those figures are without the brush.
