I picked up a Technics SL-D1 turntable for refurbishing that included a Stanton RS500DJ cartridge with no stylus. My research has found that the OEM was a 0.6 mil conical with low tolerance, appropriate for the tonearm. It seems to have fairly standard specs in response, channel separation, and output. Is there any benefit to fitting it with a similar or better stylus? I see I can get an OEM equivalent, but also get a JICO nude conical, or a bonded Vivid Line elliptical from LPGear. Anyone have any experience or insight to offer on the best option? I have better cartridges on hand, but I do enjoy comparing vintage stuff, which can sound surprisingly good.
