Stanton T.62

My brother called and asked me was this a decent TT to purchase. He is getting it for a decent deal. It's a Stanton T.62. Only been used twice and the person wasn't into vinyl as much as he thought he would. Figured I'd ask for your opinions. My brother enjoys vinyl but hasn't had a decent TT and is wondering if this is worth purchasing (for the right amount).

Ok, any recommendations on new "budget TT's" for under $200? I ended up giving in recently and purchased a Music Hall MMF-2.2 TT. But he is now looking for something under $200 but is afraid of buying vintage since he has no knowledge on how to fix TT's, etc. He was looking for something straight out of the box with a good sound and somewhat trouble free.

IMO there isn't the bang for the buck and/or performance in any new DJ/USB/Entry Level turntables compared to the average vintage turntable. For well under $200 you can get a vintage turntable that will outclass the prior mentioned new turntables by a country mile. As for knowing nothing about turntables I advise that like anything else you might consider purchasing EDUCATE YOURSELF about turntables. You came to an excellent place to do that with thousands of posts re the subject and many experienced members that are very knowledgable re turntables etc. IMO the Stanton T62 is a bad investment at any price and would probably do serious damage to his records. It is possible for a novice to purchase a vintage turntable with a cartridge mounted and ready to use "out of the box" for a lot less than what is available new.

DJ use;
Nope, besides the SL12xx these are the only decent dj tables (I owned two different brands from this table for years);

Cheapest version is only 230€ around here...

Two types of Stanton in there too, but avoid the straight tonearm versions like the pest.
Short straight 'ASTS' style dj tonearms suck (or rather.. Eat.. Records)

HiFi use;
As stated before; If your brother wants a turntable for vinyl playback many vintage turntable models in a decent state will give him far better results that the T62.
