Starting my TX-9500 renovation project

Hello fellow AKers,

I'm finally starting to renovate my TX-9500. I just noticed the soldered-on shield plate at the end of the IF board. Of course there are electrolytic and tantalum caps to replace in that area! I would appreciate any advice on how to remove the shield, replace the caps, and then replace the shield without incinerating the board.

I still own my old Weller soldering gun......

You might ask Xpunker in the AK tuner forum, he if anyone might have advise and experience. I gave you my advise in the fmtuner web forum already. post a pic of what you are dealing with.
 
Hooray! I was able to remove the shield without damage. I used an 80 watt pencil iron with chisel tip. After removing excess solder from the tab / board junction with the de-soldering pump, I let it cool down. Then I used solder wick to reduce the solder at the junction to the minimum amount possible. Lastly, I heated the shield until the remaining solder melted, and gently pried up around each tab sequentially, until the shield was free.

I'll use low-melting point solder for re-assembly.
