Hey guys,

Anyone here know about electret headphones (earspeakers)? I've gotten a offer to buy a set of STAX earspeakers. The package is called the SR-80MX-- they include the SR-80 Pro earspeakers and the SRM-Xs amp.

From the photos, everything looks absolutely mint, papers all included in the sale, etc... one thing that I have no idea how to call is the value of this package. Does anyone here (maybe no as long a shot as I may think) know how much these are worth?

I own a STAX SR-84 (SR-80, not pro, phones with SRD-4 amp) setup already and bought replacement drivers for them (severe imbalance) that are on their way from Iceland.

Any ideas on where I might find the information, or blue book values, etc. are much appreciated!

Ditto the very high praise for Stax headphones. But pricing isn't all that easy to come by -- I'm not sure many are sold, and headphones are the sort of things that wear out, so older ones in bad shape may not be really desireable. So what your pair is worth is beyond me.

STAX earspeakers really are the best... until they develop a channel imbalance... :tears:

I have to have my Kenny's balance at 9 o'clock (6 is the norm) for the test tone to sound even, and it's moving closer to 10 :tears:

Same result on my Sony.

Have you tried swapping left to right on the input to see if the problem follows the control box or stays with the headphones?

Tried that, it stays with the headphones. All that's in the box is a ceramic cap and a transformer per channel, and everything seems to be okay.

Some people say that running them for a long period of time 'wakes up' the quiet channel. I've been running them all day (Pink Floyd, Classical, System of a Down, in a cd changer on repeat) and it just won't come up to volume.

There's a guy in Iceland on HeadFi that was cool enough to sell me his fully functioning SR-80s minus the cable for $20. So we'll see what happens.
