Stax US repair

Greetings,

I have a pair of SR5s and SR30s with the SRD6 and SRD4 energizers, respectively.
I haven't used them for the last six months. Today I tried them both and, conincidentally, they both failed.
I tried them with three different powers amps from 40W to 70W; the latter was able to get some, highly distored sound, at higher volumes. I opened up the SRD6 energizer looking for bad caps or burnt resistorsl everything is immaculate.

I should mention that prior to stopping use, I noticed some L/R imbalance; whether this was a sign of impending total collapse, I do not know.

Thank you,

Alex

Hello Alex

Welcome on AK

SR5 is an electrostatic headphone
SR30 ,SR40 or SR80 are electret headphones
They do not work the same
SR5 give distorded sound if it is not correctly polarized
Electret headphone are polarized at manufacture and should not give distorded sound except if the diaphragms are dead
Open the both "boxes" is a good idea but as you saw there is no dammaged components inside
I will ask you this question : are you sure about your power supply when you use SR5 ?
I don't think that there is somebody able to refix this in USA today
Drivers for these models are NLA since 20 years in Japan
