Steely Dan/ABC deadwax matrix numbers

Has anyone decoded the deadwax in ABC pressings, particularly Steely Dan? I just got what looks like a very early pressing of Countdown to Ecstasy, and I'm curious. It's a black label, so there's that. And there seem to be a combination of machine stamped and handwritten numbers at various points, a little like Beatles EMI mother/stamper codes. I don't know what I'm looking for though. Any help would be appreciated.

Ought to be ABCX 779 from 1974. If it's on the Black ABC label with Silver lettering, ABC Rainbow logo at the top, then it's probably an original pressing or close to it because this label was discontinued in the 3rd quarter of 1974, more or less. The seldom seen ABC "Block" logo was used in the interim between this Black label and the ABC label that starts purple at the spindle hole and radiates outwards, to yellow, to the dead wax. (Like the label on an original Aja album.)

So yes, you have a very early copy.

...and go to the bottom of the page to find the links to other years with label and artist info. Also, Discogs is pretty worthless if you are looking for in depth info. No offense intended.

Hey thanks! Just what I was looking for.
