Steely Dan Aja vinyl distortion defect??

I dont have Aja on B2B, but a I do have couple of others that aren't too hot. I'd venture to guess it's just the overall quality of B2B.

Back to Black is notorious for numerous pressing and mastering problems. The majors just don't know how to make vinyl any more. Everyone who buys one ends up singing the blues.

Hi Cabalaska, and welcome to the forums :)

This album, while challenging,is certainly not a torture test by any stretch.I also use an Ortofon 2M Black, and it tracks this album perfectly. Mine is an old copy, and might even be a Canadian pressing.I use an SME III arm mounted on a Thorens TD-125.

Just out of curiosity, what is your set up,and what is your tracking force?

Cheers,

Art

Hi,
I have a rega rp6 with RB-303 arm and my tracking force is set at 1.5g per the ortofon recommendation. I use a digital weighing scale to set the TF. I posted on my last post that I acquired an older copy that tracks fine with no inner groove distortion. I have concluded with near 100% certainty that the Back to Black vinyl new pressing is defective.

My ABC original Aja tracks just fine, no Inner Groove Distortion on my Shure M75 EJ at 1.75 grams on my Pioneer PL 12-D. it also tracks comparably at the same force on my Technics SP-25/Audio-Technica ATP 16-T/Shure M 25c, and also on my Technics SL-D1 on my Pickering XV 15/Stanton 680 EL at 2.25 grams force. No inner groove distortion on all 3 turntables.

I played my ABC AR 1006 copy on my Dual 1219 with an AT120e cart set w VTF 1.4 grams and it played perfectly.
