Stem cells and paralysis- finally walking

Thanks for bringing this to light Deli... I as well knew about the accident, but didn't know to what extent.

You and your father have my family's thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

I'm not sure where/what the politics of stem cell research are in my state, but rest assure, I will be finding out.

God speed!

Scott

This should give some idea to what California is doing regarding stem cell research. Before his untimely passing, Christopher Reeve campaigned for this proposition. Unfortunately, despite being passed by the voters of California (including myself), it's tied down by lawsuits.

Thedelihaus,

I can´t begin to express the comotion your post brought upon me. I´ve read it several times in the last 4 or 5 hours.

My very limited knowledge of the english language prevents me from expressing the turmoil of feelings inside.

You said "And I live for hope." The most touching thing I´ve read in a long time, and " hope " should allways be the last thing to die.

You are a tremendous human being, with an enormous soul. After all the disgrace and injustice that fell upon you I do not see any anger in your writing.

Man, I wish I were just a tiny bit like you. Your problems made me realize I have no problems other than my selfishness, arrogance and stupidity. Gosh, and to think that so many times I find myself feeling sorry for myself for things that really have no significance whatsoever.

Hang in there Paul. You and your father will be in my family´s prayers tonight. I believe that when God closes one door in front of you He will soon open another one. I really do, and I hope He does it for you sooner rather than later.

Jorge

Deli's post took me by surpise. Why? It offered a reasonable, non-political reason to get behind what many people think will lead to a cure for dozens if not hundreds of diseases. All I ever see on TV are either scientists or religious types debating the subject. Here is somebody we have a connection to explaining his position in simple terms to which we can all relate. Allowing this research would let society right countless wrongs. How can anybody dispute that?

I live in Madison, WI where the local university is doing stem cell research and holds patents on lots of the tech (which is a *big* sore spot in some circles). If the feds don't wake up and smell the money, we'll fall behind other countries as we have in so many other tech fields. We can't afford to not invest in stem cell research.

As for the suggestion of trying meditation, go for it! I had been trying to find a technique that worked for me and it wasn't until three months ago I found a winner. My blood pressure has dropped at least ten points and other personal issues have cleared up as well. You don't need to spend hours meditating. Five minutes a day will work just fine until you're more comfortable with it.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.

And all the support.

I'm really choked up here.

Last night, after seeing the newscast, and somewhat recovering from the shock of it all, I went out for a sandwich and a beer. To see it's a possibility that I'd be able to walk again was the greatest thing personally I've seen to this day.

It took all I could not to burst into tears at the restaurant table while thinking about it.

Hang in there deli...we're with ya.

Also, whether it's meditation or self-hypnosis, Gonzothegreat is correct...after learning the techniques (in my case self-hyp) it really does take about 5 minutes a day to feel tremendously refreshed. In fact, I should get back to doing this regularly again...getting out of the habit is unfortunate, but getting back into the discipline can indeed lower blood pressure and allow one to focus on reducing pain, avoiding bad habits, relaxing in the face of stress and other issues.
