Stephens Tru-Sonic Speaker find

They came out of a church. The research that I have done is making me reothat these are a serious score. My question is, why are there two sets of wires? Do you have to Bi-amp these?

Perhaps a few close up pictures of the wiring and the drivers might help. As for whether or not it's a serious score: only your ears can tell.
 
Holy crap on a cracker. Not sure of that specific configuration, but in general, more than major score. Competed easily with the likes of jbl, altec and klipsch.

Congrats, those are some really nice drivers and interesting speakers. I’m a big fan of Stephens Tru-Sonics. I recently finished a Stephens coaxial project and they’re now on my list of favorite speakers, possibly my favorite.

Take your time and make sure you’re careful with those, they’re pretty rare. There isn’t much information available about Stephens so please document this thread with as much information and as many pictures as you’re able. I’ll be following along.
 
Awww....it's a cute little mini Altec multicell horn! That or the woofers are 100" diameter and the cabinets are HUGE! ha. Cool looking speakers.
 
That appears to be the same horn used in the 206ax/axa coaxes. Nice score, that is an interesting configuration, kind of like an Altec Carmel, configuration but with a much smaller horn.

What I want to know is what was the church driving them with!

That’s actually a Stephens horn. If it’s the same one that the 206ax uses, it’s slightly smaller than an Altec 604 horn.

Edited: The Stephens horn is slightly larger than an Altec 604 horn.

Oh and be very careful with that tweeter, those diaphragms are BEYOND unobtanium

Yes, I believe (if my memory isn't completely shot) that those were 214s when sold as separate units

I honestly have no clue about the brand other than knowing the Stephens woofers were used in early Klipschorns. It was a random thing in saying it looked like a mini Altec horn but that does make sense it would be similar to the 604.
 
Nice looking cabinet. I’m guessing the compartment for the tweeter is there because there is no other way to mount the horn and keep it sealed? Interesting gap (port It seems) in the bottom of the cabinet. Seems pretty well constructed/braced.
