Stephens Trusonic cabinet?

I recently acquired a neat old speaker cabinet from a gentleman who buys storage units. Researching who made it, I think it's a Stephens Trusonic of some model as it looks extremely similar to photos I've seen of other ST models. It has no drivers, it's just the cabinet but it's in pretty nice shape. I was considering hiding a powered sub inside it as there's enough room for a small one.
Do empty cabinets like this have any real value? I paid $20 for it.

In some cases the answer is yes, others not so much. More often than not the 'value' went away with the contents of the box. Never hurts to list the boxes for sale, someone somewhere may be looking for just that thing.:dunno: Condition is important.

I'm not all that familiar with factory Trusonic cabinets. Although I am familiar with their Full Range drivers. Finding any factory Trusonic cabinet, whether it has drivers in it or not, is a rare find. It if that is a factory cabinet and it is in as nice as shape as it looks, it should be worth a few hundred or more. I would think using that for a subwoofer would be a poor use. It's probably too large and not built well enough to take the hammering. I would suggest installing a Trusonic co-axial driver in there, or some full range driver and use it for a mono system.

VERY nice looking cabinet. I took a pair of cabinets that formerly held Stephens trusonic speakers and mounted a JBL 2214 in each, to act as bass boost for some UREI monitors i have ... (I changed the speaker cloth from some tired gold striped white cloth to JBL Monitor blue cloth) .
The cabinets have a port/slot across the bottom similar to what yours has.

So for those of you who might know, does this appear to be a Trusonic cabinet? At this point, I'm really not certain.

There is a guy not far from me who has a set of Acoustic Craft cabinets (empty) for $125.00. They look similar to yours.

It has a Jensen look to me.

Can you steer me towards any links that might clear this up ? I thought it might be a Trusonic as there is one for sale on Ebay that shows virtually identical construction with the exception of the grill bars.

There are too many variables regarding speakers and the cabinets they were in.So many homebuilt jobs.Might try googling Jensen Imperial for that particular cabinet.

You may be right there.... I did find a number of pics showing very similar cabs being labeled as a Jensen of some sort. Perhaps the photo I found calling it a Trusonic was in error ?

Ok I may have figured this out. I found a site showing some Jensen catalogs from the late 40's and found the same unit that the eBay seller thought was a Trusonic.
It appears what I have is one of their Bass Reflex cabinets probably made in the late 40's to early 50's. These came in 12" and 15" models, mine has a baffle board for a 12".
Ok, now I know !!!

I absolutely LOVE those old speaker cabinets. They were built in a time that valued fine furniture and beautiful design. To me, they just ooze class in a major way. The one you have is simply stunning. It's too bad that it wasn't one of a pair, as adding a nice coaxial is just the ticket for fully enjoying them.

Like others, I have serious doubts about using it as a subwoofer enclosure. For one, it's not properly tuned or sized for current subwoofer standards, plus it is not built for the rigors that a modern subwoofer can exert on the enclosure.

Looks like you've found the best use for it - unless you can find a match, THEN you could be in for some serious coax magic!

I just found a vintage Jensen K210 coax as was standard in these off eBay. It's enroute now!! $110 for the speaker plus $20 for the cabinet, good investment in my book.

That right there? It's called Doin' it Right.
