Stereotech 1200 hum issue

I've searched for someone with a similar issue. I've read lots about hums with no help.

My issue is that I have a hum from both speakers which gets louder as you increase volume. The hum is present with nothing else connected to the receiver and it's not a speaker issue.

To me it sounds like the hum you'd associate with a poor ground. As well the hum greatly increases when a dimmer switch in the room is turned on.
No other receiver hooked up in the same place has this issue.

Any ideas for me here?

Sounds like 60/120 cycle interference being generated in "house" circuitry possibly caused by the dimmer circuitry, then being passed to some portion of the amp circuitry.
Also could be failing (condensers) power supply capacitors.

My money is dimmer interference and/or a ground loop. Might need power supply electrolytics if not done in recent years.

Did you try reversing thew power cord ?

Yes, it is that old, I had one. In fact I liked it. Best damn low filter I ever had, on the TT, cranking it I had woofer excursion out the ass but was always reluctant to use the filter because if screwed up my low bass. Not this thing. Cone stopped and you could not hear the difference. Kickass tone controls too. The FM was screwed up on mine.

Unfortunately with moving and all that I had to get rid of it, especially since the amp blew out later. If I knew then what I know now...

Yes, I'd recommend trying reversing the power cord.
