I found a pair of Sterling speakers and can't find any info on them. The top of the terminal pad says "The Westminster" below the connections it says "Cathedral Sound Systems by Sterling. They look pretty good size. Anybody know anything about these? The internet has almost nothing except a add for a pair in Vietnam.

Nothing exotic about the drivers other than the woofer seems relatively modern (polypro?) compared to the mid and tweeter, both of which look rather early 70s. As does the styling. There is a lot to be said for bigness in speakers - larger woofers in larger boxes produce more, and deeper, bass more easily than smaller speakers. They can, of course, have their own problems - large panels tend to be more resonant than smaller ones.
Given that the woofer might not be original (and it very well might be, despite my question), and the wide range of quality in older generic speakers, I would suggest that only listening will tell you if it is worth proceeding. Keep in mind you might have better highs if you recap.

They look interesting. If they were reasonably priced, I'd buy them. At worst, you have a good looking cabinet for a big project, and quite likely, you have a speaker that may be imperfect (as all speakers are), but one that could be improved with relatively modest investment, and would be an excellent learning experience.

Pair of the large Westminster speakers popped up near me. Look fairly different from the other ones shown before, so thought I'd post them for comparison. Same drivers as the 2nd pic, but mounted on the outside of the front (baffle?) instead of inside. Either the previous ones were updated versions or... something.
From previous searches, I believe the Sterling brand was actually a local speaker maker here in TX. and they show up every so often. Would be curious to learn more about these big boys if anyone has the 411.

I have the Westminster. Same company. Looks like a Warfedale. Sounds BIG. A bit congested with complex music but otherwise a nice loudspeaker. Bass Reflex. 24 x 21 x 13. About 65 ilb. 15" woofer. 6 inch mid. 2 inch tweeter. Just guessing. Very good on big band jazz and classic rock. Whoever made these put some money into them. Mix of solid wood, nice thick veneer, and MDF back. Just litened to some Van Morrison and Bonnie Raitt. Easily as good as JBL or Pioneer from the 70s with less exotic materials and not quite as loud but more effeicient and better suited to low power tube amps. Almost exact cabinet clone of Warfedale W70D. But more bass and a bit more congested sound. The Westminster, Cathedral Sound Systems, by Sterling, Pt. I found a pair of Sterling SE-610 B, one is missing the cloth but can't find any info about these ?
Does anyone else have a pair maybe ?

i have a pair of sterling 610-B .... i purchased new in 1972 at a stereo store in irving, texas it was called crabtree electronics owned by sterling electronics corporation
. i think they were based ihouston texas....
they are very good speakers i listen to them in sound room up against jbl and could not tell difference...they might be made by utah speaker company but not sure
i also at that time purchased a stereo receiver branded SE for sterling electronis.... it works great
it has black out dial with blue lights and spec says 33 watts rms per channel.... and with case off inspection it has MOTOROLA POWER TRANSISTORS ON HEAT SINK.
THE MAIN BOARD IN IT HE THE ev logo etched on board for the electro-voice logo... it also has stamped on back MADE IN USA.....

THE SPEAKERS CAME WITH FOAM SCULPTURED SQUARES POPULAR AT THAT TIME/ GRILL COVERS AT THAT TIME WHICH WERE REMOVABLE
