So I think I am getting close to something.... I already ordered a replacement stylus for the PL990, should be here in a couple more days...at least I can listen to a few albums in the meantime.... someone just sent a link for a Technics SL23, and it's only a couple of hours away from home... asking$140....worth it? Also bid on sansui sr222, we're at $99 as of this moment....in the shopping cart a PL 115D for just under 200 cost and shipping, and also a Technics SLD202.... regardless of which model, was considering ortofon head and cartridge, maybe start with a Red... thoughts anyone?

The SL 23 is a fine table but I wouldn’t pay $140 and sure wouldn’t add a several hour drive on top of it. I’d hold out for your stylus.

I agree with Wes_in_VA.

I know a lot of people say the PL990 isn't worth the time. I bought one used 2 or 3 yrs ago. Thanks to a cat accidently shut up in the room with it, it ended up crashing to the floor. The 'stop' button no longer works but, it still plays fine. There are deals to be had. I just walked away from a Technics SL-D1 for $50 because someone stole the headshell w/ cartridge from it in the store.

I know it's easier said than done but, don't get discouraged and don't give up hope. There's a deal out there for you.

Well, we don't know where the OP is or how much gear there is local to him. There are parts of the country where a two hour drive is nearly a requirement. Plus, if he tells us, maybe we can peruse his local CL. I love spending other people's money.

Jeez, it takes me 2 hours just to get across town these days - traffic, constant road repairs, etc.

I got lucky today and found a NM Technics SL-BD200 with cartridge and a good stylus for $50 at a local estate sale about an hour from home. Rock solid motor. Now, what to do with it...

I was wrong about the turntable. It’s a Technics SL-Q200 with what looks like a brand new Technics cartridge on it.
