This is for those out there who have a sidelined Pioneer SX-780, Kenwood KR-5010, or other nice receiver that incorporates the STK0050 and needs one or two. Yes many STK0050's are Chinese knock-offs of questionable quality so I urge you to simply forget about them.

I just replaced both STK0050 DPP's in my Kenwood KR-5010. Though I've seen posts that tell us the STK0050II won't work as a 0050 replacement and I can tell you that information is dead wrong. My KR-5010 is fit as a fiddle once again. No mods, just solder it in a go, with fresh thermal compound under them of course.

I drove it quite hard for hours and the receiver got warm but not what you'd call hot.

Quantify, please. Driving it "hard" for me would be a measured (not via the front panel power meters) 10-15W sine wave from 1-3 KHz continuously for 30 minutes or more through 8Ω dummies. If it can do that successfully, the modules may be suitable. Also, output module temperatures below 160°F would be "warm" and above 185°F would be "hot" in a relative world, but that's just my impression. Any idea what yours are running at 10-15W?

There are at least 9 genuine 0050 on FleaBay as of this post. Search for (qzty) from Sparta NJ. They do not sell "fakes" anything. I have questioned Adele many times but everything has been absolutely genuine thus far. They go by wehavethatitem and most of the time they do.
 
You just need to be careful about subbing these IC's.
The STK0050 has only 6 active pins. 1,2,3,8,9,0. The STK0050II has all 10 pins active, with pins 4,5,6,7 providing some sort of compensation, or feedback. If you decide to sub them, I would think it best to lift pins 4,5,6,7 just in case they could possibly create some sort of problem.
With the fact that STK0050II has those extra pins, I would think that STK0050 would not be a good replacement for the STK0050II.

Yes wehavethatitem has a lot of original Sanyo STK and Sanken S80W type hibrid IC's as he got the majority of my friends inventory from Florida (who was a major Sanyo and Panasonic Parts supplier) a few years ago. I actually picked up some samples prior to the inventory liquidation. My friend didn't have any of the most common left (STK0050, STK0060, STK0070, STK0080, STK0100), but did have a lot of good originals that are great subs. STK1060 for example is a great sub for STK0050. The only difference is the STK1060 has internal emitter resistors. The are the same shape, and same pin layout, so if you install an STK1060 in place of a STK0050, you just need to lift pins 4,5,6,7 and not solder them (although usually units units using STK0050 have no connections for 4,5,6,7)
I am attaching a spec sheet that shows many of thr STK's their types, case styles, and pin outs, that can at times point you to a good sub.

USS2022 is the seller. I recall them NOT having Darlington printed on the module, just the words Power Amplifier.

They are definitely a good source. I’ve never question authenticity when buying from them.
