Storing tape and mag eraser

Is there any danger to storing my bulk eraser or head demagnetizer in the same cabinet i keep reel to reel tapes? Also is it problematic to have the cabinet next to speakers( I dont belive they're to "high powered", Advents and Genesis M1's)

Just doing some reorganizing and was trying to put all my tape stuff in one cabinet.

Just decided to use this cabinet to keep my stuff together, want to make sure the speaker magnets won't damage the tapes as well as if it's ok to put my bulk eraser and demag wand on the bottom shelf

If those devices plug in they are inert when unplugged and can be stored by tapes. Speakers won't do much damage to a recorded tape without getting the tape very close to the magnet gap in the drivers.

Even with those devices you need to have the heads and other metal tape path objects right next to the demag for it to work...and the bulk eraser, again tape very, very close.

Nope, tapes will be fine. Never store your tapes close to or on top of any larger transformer that is powered on, that will kill your HF response.

I just bought a bulk tape eraser on the bay today. Couple of question that I’ll piggyback on this thread for since it’s on topic:

1) on the 10” side do they need to be spooled on a plastic reel or can you do it using the aluminum metal reels?
2) there are two holes in the unit to center spools (7” and 10”) but there are no pins in the holes. any recs for pins?

1) No, you can do it using aluminium reels;
2) Picture may help. What model you got? Anyway it is not a big problem. You can machine spindle if you want good look or take correct size plastic pen, piece of wood or whatever, cut a piece and push into hole. When erase slowly rotate reel one side, then swap and repeat on another.

Found a Robins TM-99 on the bay. Was hoping to find one of those 260 models that some guys here have recommended, but couldn’t find any for sale.

I guess I’ll machine a plastic pin, should be easy enough…although what to do for the 10” NAB reels?

For my bulk eraser an audiolab TD-1B there is one pin hole with a removable plastic pin in it. I have a modded NAB adapter to plop on the pin for use with NAB hubbed reels.

For 10” NAB reels simply use any NAB adapter, but leave it open if it has lock function. And I advise to attach a piece of self adhesive felt or velvet sheet to prevent reel scratching.
