The Philips ECC230 and some mil-spec 6080's could be run with fixed bias (with small ballast cathode resistors), but I would not try it with generic 6AS7's or 6080's.It is possible that tube is suitable for fixed bias (just like 6c33c) due to significant thermal drift. That way you can have both cathode bias and fixed bias working together. But cathode resistor should be rather low value just to compensate possible drift.
Not a problem. I am using 2 6CG7s with a plate supply of 365. Gives me around180V PP drive. THose are driven by a 12DW7 amp and PI.My situation also... I am using 2-3 different schems, but pretty sure I have it dialed in parallel SE... Not enough gain tho... thinking of using both 6SN7 stages as drivers...

Yes I am going for push pull parallel so th OT primary is center tapped and the secondary at 4, 8, 16. What is puzzling me is that using an 8 ohm load on the 16 tap I get more (about 4) watts than I do if I properly connect the 8 ohm load to the 8 ohm tap. I have never seen this happen before.I'm not understanding the pri. Z situation, is the pri. side of the OPT center tapped? I'm confused as usual. I'm in a break period (due to a damn bathroom remodel) of building a pair of triple 2A3s in parallel, so I'm watching this close too. I'm hoping for a clean 8 or 9 watts with distortion dependent on tube matching.
It's a good design, however the output power is much reduced, not sure if it will meet Ned's needs.
BTW I am using a set of military 6080s for the prototype I have a quad of new Svetlana 6AS7s for the finished product. Hope they will handle the current.
Yes, the 6080's appear to be more robust than the run-of-the-mill 6AS7's.I wouldn't count on the Svetlanas to handle those operating parameters. 1960's era JAN-6080WB's by Sylvania or RCA are the way to go IMO.
