Straingest score I've ever had!!! (pix)

Aw come on.. plug it in and get us some video...

I've always wanted to build a really big tesla, and have even at one time looked for a pole pig with that in mind... I have a feeling though my neighbors would hate me no matter how much the power company loved me..

Pole pigs for a Tesla coil? That is truly, deeply INSANE! I like playing with neon sign trannies, and that is scary enough, but pole pigs --feeding a tesla coil? :yikes: Reminds me of some of those old photos of 12-15-foot "lightning bolt" sparks... No, thank you. Enough stories out there of partly-melted, partly-charred and otherwise dead people who didn't have enough respect for really high amperages. Fun? Yes, in a way. But a wise amateur also says "scary!" and leaves that stuff to the true professionals... who rarely consider DIY efforts like this stuff as "fun".

Tell me about it, I think the pole pigs were meant for the huge 1-story coils that a very...er...elite set of diy enjoy. Needless to say, they don't get anywhere close to it when operating (as you mention, partly-melted, etc). Even small ones like Djnagle got can have some pretty good sparks:yes:. As I recall, tesla coils are quite loud as well...though the coolest thing is all the online videos of people hooking up MIDI controls to a tesla coil, and making "singing sparks", really cool stuff (one guy even plays guitar through a coil), sounds terrible, but would you expect fidelity?:D.

speaking of dangerous, those wimshurst machines with leydon jars(in reality, giant caps, I believe) can be a "shocking" experiance. Van de graffs are definately the safest little electric field toy. Well, I suppose very small tesla coils are alright, one of my high-school classes had a real small tesla coil, that was harmless- could still get you good though:yes:.

Now I need to figure out how to turn them into speakers....no kidding. I have been reading about singing Tesla Coils and I want to do the but there is not really any clear instructions that I can find.

ooh yeaaah

I helped build one of these way back when. Tesla Coil for sure.

As stated, do not mess with this until you understand it. And when you understand it, stay away when running.

The guy I helped build one of these insisted on completely disassembling it. He would NOT let anyone have it.

I was just looking at the way both of these were built.. wow.. the builder was doing some really different things with these.. .losts of things to carry the arc....

That reminds me why I like "eccentric" people. :D

Indeed, note the chainmail armor:D, I believe connected to ground, to prevent the electricity from flowing through him.

There has to be a page about making the singing tesla coils, as far too many out there are doing it...maybe it's in a book or something. From what i've heard it's MIDI controlled, so you want that to control the frequency of the coil to match the frequency of the music, but I have no idea how to do it:scratch2:. here's a page that kinda outlines it, but i'm thinking there must be easier ways (the music that is, not the controller). as writing music into a midi program isn't necessarily fun. I would love to see one where you could plug any song into (maybe a DAC from a device:scratch2:).
