Strange adapter - need help!

Hi folks,
New to the old turntable game, and hope you guys can help me out, got my hands on a mint condition Pioneer turntable Model PL640, I know it's not the most classic turntable out there or by any means the best...but it'll do me. Only thing is, it's got an adapter for the wall socket I've never seen before...

Does anyone recognise where this is from? If I cut it off and rewire it to an NZ/AUS adapter, do I need to do anything else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Hi there, I don't actually know...but it did cross my mind that maybe that cable would plug into an amp, which would in turn plug into the wall socket and therefore power the turn table. If that was the case - any ideas what to do?
 
Yes its the original power socket that fits to the back of a Pioneer amplifier. You could just cut it off and replace with an ordinary plug...though its a shame to do this....
 
Just be double sure to check the label on the TT and make sure its a 240 Volt version and not an imported one from the states first
 
Thank's for the help guys - yeah I was looking at an adapter, but because of the long thin plastic strip that runs across the adapter, I don't think there is one that would fit. Might just have to give it the chop - or try and hunt down an original Pioneer amp that would work...unlikely over here in New Zealand I reckon!
 
its a strange plug, I haven't actually seen that type before and i wonder if that flat plate is actually the grounding wire for the tt....is there another earth binding post on the back of the TT?
 
Yeah there is a wire than runs along with the two male RCA cables. And I just unscrewed the adapter, it's just a blue and brown wire inside. Oddly enough, the adapter is far longer than the two RCA leads...which makes me think maybe it didn't plug into an amp? It's quite a strange set up - came in a wooden, glass topped custom Pioneer unit, with two shelves.
 
Blue is Neutral Brown is Active, It was to plug into the amplifier, Most amplifiers have a Switchable and Non switchable power socket at rear...that way you can choose as to whether the component going into it either has its power supply cut when the amp is switched off or not.
 
Nice one. I take it as long as I earth the turn table with the earth wire that runs out the back if it, I can take the old adapter off and just put a New Zealand one in then?
 
Yes just change the plug over to your NZ standard, take note to get the Neutral/Active correct. Run the Earth wire from TT binding post too Binding post on the rear of amplifier you are using as normal.
