Strange album 'bonus' tracks.

G'day all, I was playing Stone Temple Pilots excellent 'Purple' album on my exercise bike session this afternoon, and I let it play right though including that rather strange 'last track'.

I can think of 'Her Majesty' on the Beatles 'Abbey Road' are being a similar 'strange' bonus track, although I believe it is now listed on CD copies of the album.

Many other albums with similar 'strange' bonus tracks? Regards, Felix aka catman.

Good topic, Catman. My vote goes to the bonus track with Arthur Godfrey ("Just Like Gene Autry") on the Moby Grape "Vintage" compilation.

Also, the "hidden" version of "I Fought The Law" on the "American Standard" CD by Mary's Danish.
 
True story: back in the 90s, I bought a new Spacehog CD, came home, put it on, listened to the whole thing, and promptly fell asleep when it ended. 15 minutes later, I awoke in total confusion to the sound of this.
 
"Broken" by Nine Inch Nails has tracks 7 to 97 as each a second of silence and then tracks 98 and 99 are full length "hidden" songs.

Would be the same rude awakening as dumptruck described above if you kip after track 7

I've come across a few other times where a CD had other content, sometimes non CDA files on them. Some are legacy formats you can't do anything with unless you have older versions of software.
 
Wilco's Summerteeth has a couple of bonus tracks after about half a minute of silence. Good ones, too.

Nirvana's Nevermind has one. It deserves to be hidden, IMO.

"Purple" is one of my favorite '90's albums. Great-sounding recording too (The vinyl LP is really-nice and worth picking up... It's on my current wish-list).

I think it's "Kid A", but I know that one of the Radiohead albums on the original UK vinyl has a bonus track that's actually BEYOND the deadwax, in it's own area between that and the center-hole, if I remember correctly.

Limp Bizkit's "Significant Other" has not one but TWO strange bonus tracks... One featuring Matt Pinfield and then another with Primus' Les Claypool.

Early copies had the bonus tracks on a separate 3" CD, covers of "Physical" by Adam and the Ants & "Suck" by Pigface.

I've got a couple of CDs with bonus tracks hidden before the first track, and I don't think I have a player around any longer that will play them.
 
The Why Store has 12 regular tracks, then 13 "tracks which are 5 seconds of silence, one track which is 18 seconds of silence, and then track 27 is an actual song called "Lack of Water".
Great album though, I just ripped it onto the computer without the silent tracks. But WHY do they DO that?

American edition of this one after "last" song, there is a long break of silence then you get the great song Shesmovedon. You cannot skip to it, you can FF to the song once the "last" song is done.
 
New boots n panties...

Not sure if this is a hidden track or oversight but my vinyl LP of Ian Dury's New Boots & Panties doesn't list the first track on side two. Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. Given that it was one of his biggest hits I think it was done on purpose. It's the only time I've seen a "hidden" track on vinyl. I've seen my share of mislabeled and omitted tracks on bootlegs but this is a studio release from the label he was signed to at the time (Stiff records)... if it ain't stiff it ain't worth a f**k!

Barenaked Ladies live CD titled Rock Spectacle has a hidden track at the end after you sit through 5:59 of silence on the last track.

When I was a kid and dreamed of my band making records, I always wanted to do am LP with the first song at 33 1/3, the next at 45, the ext back at 33, then one at 78...

Early LP copies of London Calling by The Clash didn't list the last the track "Train in Vain," which was a late addition to the album.
 
Korn's Follow The Leader does a similar thing except they put the silent tracks first before the first track of the album. IIRC, there was about 20 one second tracks of silent before the album began. I do recall this being quite common on CDs in the 90s.
 
Remembered another one.

Overkill / W.F.O. Track 99 at 8:59 starts counting backwards from 4:54 at 3:54 then comes a crappy, probably stoned, cover of Heaven and Hell, The Ripper and Voodoo Chile
 
Blind Melon's Soup cd has a negative one track as well as Blur's Think Tank album. Also, I did the same thing many years ago with the spacehog cd. Woke up and couldn't figure out what the hell was going on!:sigh:

I'll have to check my copy when I get home. I could see that happening... added last minute after the cover was designed. The ID & BH seemed odd tho... being the first track and that both the LP track list and outer sleeve didn't list it given that it was his first big hit and released as a single... IIRC
