I have a set of cerwin vega d5 speakers I bought used a few months ago. I noticed something strange about the back panel on them, but not until a few days ago. There was a d5 sticker on the back, and when I pealed it off the panel said a-123, which is another cv model. The difference between my d5 controls on the back compared to normal d5s is that I have a high, AND a mid controller, which the normal d5s have only high. Also, I have a breaker, with reset button on the back of the speakers, which the normal d5s do NOT have. From what I know, this appears to be a good thing since this seems to be the back panel from a a-123, which has the, as I listed above, additional features and controls.
Since I haven't owned these speakers for their lives, why is there a different, presumably better back panel in them. Did the factory run out of the d5 panels one day, and threw in the a-123? Does the a-123 panel properly match wattage, ect. the d5 speakers. (I am sure my speakers are actually d5s, with oak cabinets.) Should I try to get some real d5 panels and put them in my speakers, or is the a-123 an actual upgrade?
