Strange Kef Kit speakers find

I picked up some strange KEF KIT speakers today for 10 bucks.
But there isn't any information on the speakers aside the kef kit logo.
I can't remove the front , it seems to be glued.

Do anyone have more information about these speakers ?

Thanks but these aren't mine I think I have the 3.
dimensions are 61x33x25 hxwxd

Bass unit is sp1014

You have a Kef B110 SP1014 and T27 in there. Likely a B110 SP1003 in that isolated cabinet. Construction looks good, I imagine they sound pretty good, but based on their age I wouldn't expect much before recapping them.

Nice find for $10, the parts are worth a heck of a lot more.
 
Yes , I removed the isolated cabinet and found a sp1003 unit.
The cover is glued unfortunatly but I try to get them off without damaging it.
 
They don't look like a kit that is featured on the web site. I would send them a photo and see if they can help you ID the kit and provide some history. It's possible that this combination of drivers was unique to the creator as a true DIY design.

I would leave the inductors alone unless you have a way to measure them and to get their inductance. Inductors get expensive fast and may not be a good investment - if it were me the caps and binding posts would be a must, as well as properly lining the inside of the cabinets with some dampening material.

Agree. If the inductors are bad, you will see them melted. Otherwise, they are probs fine.

Ok , thanks for the tip. I've sent an email to Kef so let's hope they will respond.
Ok , I will only change the caps then. I have a pair of 103.2 and built a complete new crossover on wood with point to point soldering and new cross / wire coils from Jantzen audio but that was indeed expensive.
 
These speakers sounds awesome !! Only it appears the left one sounds brighter and louder but can be my old marantz receiver too. I only hear when the balance is completely to the left and then to the right when i compare.
Or is this because of the crossover need to be upgraded ?

Back in the late 60's-mid 70's, Heathkit also marketed kit speakers that utilized KEF drivers and crossovers, so you might want to investigate that.

As for utilizing 27 or 33 uF caps to replace the 30 uF cap, you could go either way since the original 30 uF caps are probably 20% tolerance anyways, and either of the caps you have on hand fall well within that range. You can also use a pair of caps in parallel to total the exact value you need if you are really OCD.

Thanks for the reply , I researched a bit about the heatkit / kef cooperated speakers but can't find any that look like these.

So these are still a mystery or DIY :scratch2:
